Does Whitening really work?
Amazing as it sounds, smile whitening works very well for most patients with few long term side effects. While results are not guaranteed, your dentist will likely be able to predict your success from your initial shade and offer suggestions for alternative steps if the result is not satisfactory.
Does the FREE program include power or laser whitening?
While the participating dentist is able to set his/her own program details it is unlikely that the power whitening would be included due to the high costs of providing this service. Some dentists may offer free gel at certain time increments for former power whitening clients. Check the details under the dentist locator for details or discuss it with the dentist.
If Whitening doesn’t make my teeth white enough can I keep bleaching longer?
Your dentist may recommend an extended whitening program for an additional fee, but sometimes even with this added effort the results are less than perfect. Sometimes porcelain veneers or crowns are necessary to provide a movie star smile.
What complications may occur with Whitening?
The most common side effect is whiter teeth, but an occasional unwanted side effect is increased sensitivity to temperature or some temporary discomfort. Using a desensitizing toothpaste recommended by your dentist prior to whitening and several weeks afterwards along with analgesics may be all you need to be comfortable.
Can I whiten my porcelain veneers?
Veneers, crowns and fillings can be whitening by replacing them. Discuss this option with your dentist at a cosmetic consultation.
Will whiteners from the local pharmacy work as well as those from the dentist?
Your dentist is a better source of cosmetic dentistry and the products sold by the dentist are usually of higher standards than those at the corner store.
How white should my teeth get?
Teeth look better when they are bright but not, over-bleached. If you bleach too much your teeth may start to look transparent, but this does not happed very quickly. Teeth respond differently to whitening procedures so you won’t know until you try it.
What precautions should I use during Whitening?
Discuss individual suggestions with your dentist prior to starting any form of whitening program as there may be some unexpected issues that you need to consider. Generally avoiding activities that would stain your smile should be avoided for a certain amount of time after whitening. Smoking, red wine and coffee/tea may be things that will be discussed.
If I may be pregnant can I still whiten?
Pregnant/breast-feeding women should avoid whitening unless this is approved by both their physician and dental professionals. Using whitening toothpaste probably would be fine.
